Kaleo Legal Adds Braxton Hill to its Complex Commercial Litigation Practice

Richmond, VA - Kaleo Legal welcomes Braxton Hill to the firm as a member of its Complex Commercial Litigation practice, with a particular focus on intellectual property disputes, contract and business tort claims, and federal criminal defense. At Kaleo Legal, Braxton will serve as both first-chair trial counsel and Virginia co-counsel in cases in federal and state court, in addition to arbitration and administrative proceedings. Braxton has over twenty-five years’ experience trying cases to juries and judges in state and federal courts throughout Virginia. He has argued appellate matters before the Virginia Court of Appeals, Supreme Court of Virginia and US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Prior to joining Kaleo, Braxton was a senior partner at a midsize Richmond firm for over twenty years, and a partner in the litigation boutique MerrittHill, where he focused on complex civil litigation in Virginia and beyond. Braxton’s practice reflects a wide array of complex litigation matters for clients ranging from individual entrepreneurs to Fortune 300 companies. His cases have involved contract disputes, LLC dissolutions, business torts, trade secret theft, trademark enforcement and patent infringement. He has served as local co-counsel for out-of-state attorneys in various commercial litigation matters, including international investment fraud cases and patent infringement disputes over household products, microelectronics, medical devices, and software development. Braxton’s high-stakes litigation experience includes multi-million dollar contract disputes in the energy and railroad industries and defense of high-exposure lawyers’ professional liability claims. He has also worked on class action matters involving mineral and gas lease royalties and consumer lending law.
An important aspect of Braxton’s work is representation of clients charged with criminal offenses by the federal government. He has been appointed to the Criminal Justice Act Felony Panel by the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and has assisted clients with responding to subpoenas issued by the US Department of Justice.
“I have had the pleasure of litigating with and against Braxton many times over the last twenty years. Braxton is a trial lawyer, and his extensive experience trying cases to judges and juries provides extraordinary depth to our complex civil litigation team at Kaleo. A true generalist, Braxton is one of the most well regarded civil litigators in Virginia, and we are grateful to have him join our growing practice in our Richmond office and expand on the core litigation and dispute resolution strengths at our firm,” said Billy Poynter, a principal at Kaleo Legal.
Braxton is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the University of Richmond School of Law. After graduation, Braxton served as a law clerk to the judges of the City of Virginia Beach Circuit Court, learning first-hand how to craft and present legal arguments that judges and juries find persuasive. Braxton is a past president of both the Bar Association of the City of Richmond and the John Marshall Inn of Court. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Bar Association’s Richmond chapter and on the Board of Governors of the Virginia Bar Association (two terms). Braxton is a member of the Eastern District of Virginia Criminal Justice Act Felony panel, and he holds a commission from the Governor of Virginia as a captain in the Virginia Defense Force, the all-volunteer state reserve of the Virginia National Guard, serving both as a judge advocate and as the executive officer of the professional services (legal/medical/chaplains) unit.
