The US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA) maintains its position among the fastest federal courts in the country. Commonly known as the Rocket Docket, the EDVA (pre-COVID-19) boasts an average time of 12 months from “file to trial.” Parties have only a short time to complete discovery, and many motions must be briefed and argued with just a few days’ notice. The Court routinely offers only a handful of days for trials that would last weeks in other jurisdictions. The EDVA’s fast docket and efficiency thus makes it an extremely attractive venue for sophisticated parties seeking prompt resolution of complex disputes. But its unique procedures are a trap for the unprepared. Litigants in the Rocket Docket need a law firm with the experience and expertise necessary to meet the court’s challenging demands, local rules, and unwritten customs.

Having spent our collective careers litigating in this Court, Kaleo Legal has successfully tried and litigated to completion dozens of cases in the Rocket Docket. Our experience ranges from complex patent and trademark cases, to representing the Salvor in Possession of the RMS Titanic Wreck Site, to every possible flavor of employment suit, to class action defense and products liability cases. Additionally, our trial lawyers participate with EDVA judges and other legal professionals in local chapters of the Federal Bar Association, the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference, and local bar associations.

Outside of the EDVA, Kaleo Legal serves as merits counsel for its clients, in cases ranging from Georgia to New York, and from Pennsylvania to California, and everywhere in between, not to mention our expertise in dozens of arbitrations to date. Our decades of experience enables to effectively serve as merits counsel, in conjunction with the expertise of local counsel, to efficiently arrive at the best result for our client, whether that is settlement or trial.
